Took a day from my busy schedule to do a fishing tour with three of my best friends. Our goal was to put our friend Lance on a good fish this time around. Lance comes down every year to do the Molokai tandem OC-1 race. Since the first time he did it with me as his partner he has been coming home to do some fishing before heading to Molokai for the race. This time Craig and Kalai decided to come with us on the run! Before we set out I realized my extra radio was dead and communication would not be easy...I decided to break Lance down on a mahimahi battle and explained that after hooking a mahi do not tighten down the drag as the mahimahi will desperately try to shake the hook when airborne. I explained that after the initial run ease up on the drag and I will coach him through the rest of the battle. After we all avoided the punishing shore break we rigged our opelus and I told Lance to go hurry and turn down and start trolling before the rest of us got a chance. I really wanted Lance to be the first to hook into something. Not two minutes later...hanapa'a! And soon Lance was into his first ever mahi with the rest of the crew cheering him on along the way. Lance did exactly as I said and fought the mahimahi to his boat side where I assisted him in landing his fish! There rest of us got lucky too but the day was for Lance, congrats partner and good luck this weekend!

Great story Ike. Reminds me of the time you and Uso helped me with catching my first mahi on the kayak. Good times. Mahalo!
