lay netters
« on: July 25, 2011, 06:41:50 AM »
So I went with the Hui Waa Kaukahi the other day out of kaika bay. We were just about back to pull  the kayak out and I see this net floating around all bunched up in the water. I pretty much knew what it was, and we went over to check it out. It was a lay net probably set the night before, it was full of aholele and hammerhead shark all very dead. I took the laynet out of the water where it cannot do any more harm to our resources. Just to be clear, I didn't steal it, I know how a lay net should be set in the water, and this one had obviously drifted with the high tide and was doing alot of harm. I'm just glad my kid and wife were with me so they could take part in getting rid of this thing and I could explain to my kid why they are legal, ami size, tags on the net (of course there were none on it) and what a lay net does. imho, The fish have "human" rights too, and need to have protection.

Just thought I would share this story with everybody. We can all do our part out there.

Great job taking care of that net. :)  Some people just don't think about the harm they're doing. >:(
