Coolers
« on: July 15, 2014, 05:35:16 AM »
We just bought a pelican 65 quart cooler, and we are not impressed, the pic shows the remaining ice after just one day and two nights. That was a 3$ block of ice.

I only have my Canyon insulated bag.

Yeti makes a great cooler.  They are not cheap by any means.

I have a little 20L no sweat cooler, if I put a block then crushed ice and open to get food or drinks out it'll last 4/5 days, I bought it for 59.99.  My cheapo coleman extreme 120qt. packed with blocks and crushed ice will go 5-7 days if opened once a day.  Not sure how much the pelican cost but my cheapo coolers have done alright by me.
HOW much is that to ship to Hawaii!!!???

thanks , I need to get  a good fish bag, I am just using nylon bags, I was hanging them in the water, been putting them in the boat, (don't want to advertise to the man in the grey suit), seems like the fish are getting bus up.

thanks for the input , the pelican was 300$ at costco, we are going to return it, I just used my old igloo with the same results, I don't get it. What's the purpose of all that material ? The pelican is heavy.

Check out Suisan for the no sweat coolers pretty good buy.  If you're using it for camping I'd bring 2 coolers, we leave one with ice only and open it only to fill the cooler we use for food and drinks.

Thanks upland and jay, while we're on the subject, what I actually need more than a new cooler is a good fish bag, my guess is that canyon is the animal, if any one has input on that, feel free.

There is a guy selling some good fish bags here on the BI through Craigs List. He has several sizes available. There is a small one for $70. I'm going to pick up one soon.

Canyon makes a bomber fish bag... I have a 30"x 65" and it's 3 years old now... Only had to fix one bus zipper tab...

I like to spend a bit more for the better quality...

I tried the 30" by 65" canyon bag, it did not work to well for me, I have a 11' scrambler, the bag was to big for my set up, there wasn't room for it on the boat, when I came in it was sitting on the bow, then the wind started constantly blowing it in my face, to sum it up it was a stressfull situation. I tried towing it on the next go out, discovered kayaks don't make good tug boats. Then discovered the seam had separated . Causing water to soak the insulation. I called the owner of canyon, sounds like he is going to take care of me. I will prbabably get two smaller bags,  20"by36", then just paddle in when I get a big one.

What size kayak do you have? Just curious how you manage that bag.
