Day 1 - Feb 22.
Super slow day. No opelus to be found. Ocean had some bad morning sickness that cleaned up later on. Lost a few deads to possible small mahis only getting heads back to the yak. Get rudder tangled on my main line while trying to pick up a piece of rubbish. Needed my partner to come help untangle me. Took so long opelu sank to the bottom and got to pick up an uku. Later on got a consolation prize with 3lb weke 'ula on the damashi rod. Had to baby that thing in, felt like a kid again. Tried to go for MM straight for points but failed.

First go at this so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Uku 8lbs 12 oz. = 9pts
Moano CNR = 6+2 = 8 pts.

Total 17pts

Rough day! Wind was blasting hard from early and back up FF was not cooperating so I went on the inside to live bait moanos. Plenty strikes, no keepers between the cut lines and rubber hooks. Got an aha to the boat and da buggah comes off in the air. Lost something good on the damashi pole as well. Not proud, but I didn't want to zero so CNRed some reefers.  :'(

CNCR moano 6 +2= 8
CNCR moano 6 +2= 8
Daily total = 16
New total = 33 pts

Super long day. Still yet to break pelagic cherry for this tournament. Bait was scattered so decided to run live moano while I looked. Ended up making a kahala.  Eventually made bait, but ended up with another kahala. Trolled liveys for hours but couldn't get a bite. Didn't feel to bad when I ran into my friends who were fishing on the boat, and all they got was an ulua. For fun just wanted to post a pick of a tiny kawa and a monsta opelu I got today. I think the opelu fought harder.

9lb kahala CNR = 11pts
9lb kahala CNR = 11pts
* I dont know the real weights, but definitely over 5.

Daily Total =22 pts
New Total  =  55 pts

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but for future reference can u claim a shark taxed fish? I.e. whats left of the fish is 15 lbs, would u get points for a 15lb fish? I know some tournaments dont count this.

Yesterday was a long slow day. Made a few baits early, then couldn't find any piles the rest of the day. Around mid-day get a possible mahi strike. Played with my bait a while before stealing it. Later on I get single strike clean cut to my flouro. Switched to wire and went back out watching my partner pull up a shibi. Kicking myself in the butt. Stayed out 3 more hours hoping for "something" but it didn't come. While waiting for the breakers to get back to the beach, get a loud splash and I'm on. Didn't know what to expect turned out to be a stinky. Still on the pelagic drought, but glad to not have zeroed.

Day 4 Total
Kaku #16 - 10 points
Mona CNR - 8 points
Daily total 18 points

Current Total 55 + 18 = 73 points

Started off with a couple of bonehead moves, but managed to recover for an alright day. Made bait pretty easily once I found the pile. Went off to give a friend a couple lives after his only damashi rig broke. Somewhere in the mix, my opelu comes off of the hook, but I think to myself  'Ah no worry, just catch another one and put a fresh one on. Forget the ones in the tube'.  30 seconds later, my other friend is pulling in an ono and I'm sitting there with an empty hook and a filled bait tube. Already mad at myself, I quickly rig up a live one and send it out. A few minutes later I get a screamer and it blazes past my friends yak. I was trying out the rubber band rig for live baiting for the first time, and I get backlashed. Tried my best to get that buggah going, but couldn't match the run of the fish and my line snaps. 20+ bull mahi proceeds to make fun of me by jumping like 8 feet in the air in front of me about 5-6 times. Note to self, save the new techniques for unclaimed days.

30 minutes later, get hooked up to something big. Turns out to be a big ulua. Tape measured it and released. Came out to be 37-38 inches. Get back going, and I get another screamer. Turns out to be another mahi. Call my partners over because she has got some friends with her. Unfortunately no one else wants to bite. Managed to land a nice cow. Felt somewhat redeemed. Wind picked up and went in.

According to the ulua growth chart, 35 inches is 30.5lbs, 39 inches is 42 lbs. Hoping to get this counted in the 30 lb. category. Tofu let me know what you think. Sorry tried to get a good shot with the gopro, but didn't try hard enough I guess.

CNR Ulua 30lbs = 27 pts
Mahi 18 lbs = 30 pts
Day 5 total 57 pts

Current total
73 + 57 = 130 pts
