Day 20

Went out for a short one with a cold, figured might as well try since running out of time. Made a ton of bait early, then Llobes comes paddling up to me and catches 2 ukus in 10 minutes in my face and paddles back in. I think my angry korean came out for a little bit, since he told me he unclaimed before he launched. Current was strong and I wasn't feeling the greatest so I went in before I was going to regret it. Scored a PB Moana Kali for dinner as a bonus.  Luckily for me the wind cranked up to about 25-30 right after I landed.

Day 20
CNR Hage - 7 pts
Aha - 10 pts

Day 20 total = 17 pts

Current Total
17 + 685 = 702 points

You don't know unless you go. Too many times I've bailed on a launch because I thought the weather would be bad, and ended up missing a good day. It's easier to sprint to shore when the SNUFFLEUPAGUS hits the fan, than sit on shore and wish you had gone out.  Keep charging!

Day 21

Thanks Mark and Ben, but I had no luck yesterday. Bait was around, but it seemed like aside from aha's there was nothing else. Jay Schmidt and Yoko_ono was out in the same spot. I think between the three of us over 20 aha bait thefts. We managed to KnR a couple of them. Randomly I got 4 of the MM fish so I figure try for that taape to finish it off. At least I got 1 nabeta for some chazuke action tonight.

CNR Weke Ula = 8
KNR Aha = 10
CNR Hage = 7
CNR Papio = 7
2 taapes = 2

MM straight 34 pts

34 + 702 = 736 Points

Haha Ed. I don't think you should be impressed with the MM straight. Definitely something I'm not proud of, but tournaments is about points. I always start the day going for pelagics, but if somehow I made enough bycatch to get the MM. Then I'll try for a little bit. You never know what might come up. I seen guys catch tunas fishing for weke ula in relatively shallow water.

Day 22

OK story time......paddled out checking marks for bait. Made one off a small pile decided to throw it out immediately. 5 minutes later an aha killed it. I look at the bait and figure, what the hell still in decent shape throw em back out as is. Still on the look out for bait, and boom something hits me hard. Clamp the drag on and boom no chance to even turn around, getting towed backwards. All of a sudden, fish starts going straight down. As I try to boost it, it feels heavy like a big shark. I'm looking at the pole for head shakes, hoping for a shibi. None. Doesn't feel like an ulua either. I am having a hard time budging the line. Yokos paddles up to me and is like what you on? I was like garanz big shark. He reminds me that I have flouro leader so it can't be a shark. All of a sudden fish comes up like there is nothing on the line. I tell Yokos, well whatever it was it just got taxed cuz its light right now. Looking below to see what it was, I see a long silver shape. I'm like wtf ONO! Its all business now, especially because I know I can get cut off at any moment. I get it to the yak and it kicks when I'm about to kage it. As I pull back the line pops, and I see the ono drifting away right out of kage reach. I almost threw it at the ono and jumped in the water. All of a sudden my pole tip bends....STILL ON. Line must have got caught on one of its fins. Kage blasted that guy. Ono virginity blown out. I got lucky. Dead opelu, flourocarbon, fought like a shark, almost lost it at the boat.

Rest of the day was slow. Switched to wire, got a miss on the trailer. Switched to flouro and tried for some tuna grounds. Slow again. Decided to head in and try for uku. Halfway in I decide to check my bait, and all I have is a sliced opelu head. Never even felt a strike. Tell myself screw this gotta try, the onos must be around. Go back to wire and trace back my last path and bango. Text book ono run. Reel is singing and one more in the books. What a day. Had to lap dance paddle it in. Not gonna lie I was sweating hard, when I saw the swells at the landing. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looked. In the meantime Yokos the beast is body slamming double sails like a champ. Great labor day! Chee.

Ono 35 = 45pts
Ono 50 = 70pts

Day 22 Total 115pts
Current Total 736 + 115 = 851pts
