Do we get points for yellow foot boobys?  BTW- if you ever have the odd chance to handle a booby on your kayak, just make sure you grab the head right away. They bite- hard.   And I think they'll go for your eyes if they can.

Got a couple small ones today, but I'm going to sleep right now.

All was pretty quiet on the front until late in the day, then finally some shots were fired.  Thought I had a good chance at hooking up around mid-day when I got under four booby birds that were working some bait being chased to the surface.  Unfortunately my bait was too close to the surface and got bombed by two birds before a fish could hit, and both got tangled up in my braid.  I started reeling the birds in closer, flapping and croaking, having no idea how to handle this situation.  Fortunately one got free as I got close, but the other clearly had a hook in the wing.  I got him next to the boat and my efforts to try get a hold of its neck only got me bit a few times, but finally his head got wedged under the line a little bit and I grabbed hold.  By this time he had one hook in the bill and one in the wing, but I got them both out and tossed it into the air to fly away with little harm done.

Finally we found where AlShibi had been hiding all day and after a few shots, I had brought two of the insurgents down.  Then once again, all went quiet on the battlefield.  Except for the wind- that was never quiet, and my body is still feeling it.

I was not able to touch any boobys today, but I did find an ono and a shibi, and then lost what was surely a very big ahi, when I was fishing next to a boat that was catching very big ahi.  But- my line on my newly spooled reel dug in and bound and my little 60 lb flouro leader snapped like a wee twig. Win some, lose more...

Sent video of the shibi on the scale to Ike.

I was hoping Hilo side had sprung to life with the right current, but the right current hadn't showed. Pretty slack water, but got two baits and immediately lost one to a genius Ono, then nothing all day until I caught a hammerhead on the other livey.  Had to pack it in early to meet my family in town, but was able to get a couple of headless houndfish  on the way in for some base points.

The onos were out in force yesterday but they were some hard-lipped customers.  Missed strike after strike all day until finally connecting with one on my last livey.  Went back in to look for bait but I had started to feel sick by the time I launched, and since both my boys were home from school with something, I knew I was next.  By the time I got home I was shivering and aching and have been down all day today.  Hope it passes quickly.

Turns out- I had Staph, from some scrapes I got at the launch.  This is the third time- that place is trying to kill me.  Two weeks later, I'm finally feeling better and text claimed to Isaac and Jay- from a different launch.  Pretty bumpy and windy, but good action in the morning even though I rubber hooked more fish than I caught.  Got two onos out on a new spot and then things were pretty quiet once I ran out of liveys.  Finally got one livey on the way in and sent it out to nab ono number three, then called it a day.

What a difference a little current makes.  Did exactly the same route as yesterday, fishing the same spots the same way, and had not a single strike.  Yesterday's wicked current went completely slack overnight, and that's all it takes to turn active spots into ghost towns.  Even bait was scarce, the only two that I got, stayed with me all day.  Tried messing around near shore for some base points but could only come up with one kawalea.

Took a chance yesterday and text claimed day 14.  Could have been a great one, but went 0-4 on ono strikes.  Had brand new hooks and rigs and just could not get them to stick and the one solid hookup I had broke my mainline.  Big wind, swell, and rain didn't help at all.  Scraped a couple points off the bottom  Time to hit the reset button.
