Bradley Wyatt
Oahu
1st Makahiki
Hobie Pro Angler 14, Malibu Kayaks Stealth 12

Been hitting it hard since getting here last summer and trying to learn as much as possible and have been putting it together pretty good so far. Really pride myself on being a student of fishing and kayak fishing because we are always learning. Working on the consistency now but loving every second! Met some great folks so far and looking forward to meeting more. Good luck to all, be safe, and Go Easy!

(please let me know if i am screwing this up)

Day 1 results;

10.2 lbs Kahala = 15 points

Total 15

video of weighing it, initially i weighed it when i got of the water and it weighed 11 but when i got home i checked and it was to close to call so went the safe route and became the guinea pig for the video method of verifying weight. Hope doing it like it did is correct if not let me know how it is supposed to be done.

Slow day for me. Got on the opelu but nothing was very hungry cept the tax collector (i hate tax season!) Didn't even get the normal Ono chomps. On the way in caught the awa awa (5.5 lbs) and man that was fun. he was jumping all over the place! fun fish to catch for sure!

Day 2;
Moana CNR = 8
Awa awa CNR = 7
day 2  15 points

running total= 30 points

Day 3
rough day out there and prolyl should have just called it before unloading the yak but i went out and got 2 Kawele'a right away and then got on the bait. had some good hits just didn't hook up and then hooked up with a small shibi just to have it throw the hook. Then the wind got even worse and the bait went awol. In the end points look like;

Moana CNR=8
Kawela CNR= 7
Day 3=15 (seems to be my number)

Total 45 points.

Heartbreaker today when after only a little bit of time out fishing my mirage drive on the kayak snapped a fin. I pulled the drive and took off the broken one and kept trying to fish but the wind picked up more and it was just not smart to keep trying. Limped it back in with my partners keeping me close and making sure i didnt get into the waves and stuff. (Mahalos! Either way caught a couple fish before everything went to crap so got a few points for the Makahiki but not anything near what i would have liked.

Things look like a repeat of last week,
Moana CNR=8
Kawela CNR= 7
Day 4=15

Running total= 60

Makes for easy scoring and averaging tho!

How did your fin snap? Just curious how long those drive fins last..... Glad you made it back safe. Your set up looks like a tank!

This morning launching i got into the reef a little with the front fin but it was ok, the back one is the one that snapped so gonna talk to em and find out if it is warranty so hobie will fix it. I thought for sure the front one woulda been the problem but nope. I just got my hobie in october so hasnt lasted nearly as long as it shouldve considering it has never been bent so think it just had a weak point in the metal rod. Now i will make sure to keep a spare in the truck so i can go back out after a quick repair!
And yeah it feels like a tank trying to lift it to load and crap but on the water she is perfect! can cruise along really good all day long without much trouble. and having the big livewell was nice today, kept 3 big goats alive with no problem but the heavy battery for that then another for the FF adds a bunch of weight that i would love to not have to deal with.

Today was all about the Mahi that got away..... crushed over it.it was a big bull and my line had snagged on my damashi before i could get it out of the way so i had a 5oz weight and one lone damashi hook stuck to my mainline. not a good feeling knowing you cant get the line onto the reel but i was fully ready to hand line him in and started to do just that. then the swivel broke..... no monsta for this guy. between that and the chompy ono's that ninja their way around the stinger hook today was heart breaking. I did catch a bunch of fish and of course i didn't take any pics of all the goats so no points for them but most were small anyways. Here is what i did catch.

Day 5
Awa awa CNR= 7
Hage CNR= 7
Day 5 total 14

Running total= 74

others i caught, i dont think there is any difference in the points for any of these but next time ill get the MM Strait!
