Thank you to Lee for guiding us off the West Shore today; beautiful morning.  Fishing was slow, only 2 opelu and no bites on those, but ended up with a 2 1/2# yellow spot papio that will make for a great supper.  (The mahi photo is from Day 4).

Day 5:  Previous total 65 + Today 5 = 70

day 6
Opelu were fussy but managed to get a few.  Lost nice bull mahi next to my kayak.  But a smaller one hit right afterwards.
SCOREKEEPER:  The CNR moano was below legal size, is that a valid CNR?

Previous total 70 + Day 6 [moano cnr 8 & 10-lb mahi 20] = 98

Aloha Ed,

Please email me a video of your mahi on a scale showing the weight.  This is a regulation required for all fish on the 10lb cusp.  If you already cut it we will have to count it as under 10.

Aloha Tofu,
I have a photo of the fish with a tape measure along side it but no video and it's been cut.    My digital scale reading was 10.0 (it reads to the nearest tenth).  On getting your and Lyle's note, I re-read our rules re 10# fish and they are clear:  "...take a quick video of your fish on the scale from head to toe including weight."
Revised score through and including Day 6 = 88 points.
Ed

Appreciate the good luck wish Boo.  That caught me two nice opelu and they swam strong till 11:30 when the wind and waves drove me in.  However, no takers.
That's OK; we'll eat the opelu for supper.
Day 7: Zero points.  Total still 88.

Day 8, one small kamanu (5) and opelu CNR (2).  New total 88 + 7 = 95.  Hoping to break a hundred before I run out of days!
Declaring day 9 tomorrow, April 25.

A good part of the Maui team was out today.  9th and a few others caught mahi, kawakawa, and uku but it was not my day to hook up.  Crossed a group of opelu on my way in; two bit my damashi so I could claim a double CNR.
Total: 95 + Day 9 [2+2] = 99.

Still trying to break 100 so I am taking day 10 tomorrow, Wed May 13th.  Forecast is not great but should be able to spend most of the morning on the water before the trades arrive.

Waimeakauai and 9ths good luck wishes got me a few opelu.  Besides a couple aha bites; did get one legit strike but it did not stay.  Wind and current provided a good workout, only lasted until 11 AM.
Will try again tomorrow, declaring Day 11 on Friday May 15th.
Day 10 Zero, total through and including day 10 still at 99.
