Amazon.com Lure packages for CHEAP!
« on: April 09, 2015, 12:58:36 PM »
Well I'm stocking up for this coming season of "fishpocolypse" and I'm trying to go cheap. I just couldn't stomach 12-15 bucks for the CM Yo-Zuri Lures, so I went on Amazon.com and found some really similar knock-offs from China. I went ahead and bought 50 bucks worth of lures, which was in upwards of 40 different shapes, sizes and colors.

http://www.amazon.com/Voberry%C2%AE-seller-Plastic-Fishing-Crankbait/dp/B00N3NZ9OS/ref=sr_1_6?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1428619643&sr=1-6&keywords=hard+fishing+lures

The above is one example, just thought I'd share and ask if anyone has had luck with these cheapo's. If not, I guess I'll be the tester!   :D :D :D

These guys look pretty similar...

First thing I would do is replace the split rings and treble hooks.  I've had hooks snap, and split rings straighten on cheap lures.  I prefer eliminating the split rings altogether by using a double hook (stainless Yamashita or Mustad) and slipping directly onto lure eye.  Single siwash hooks with open eyes work well too, just squeeze the hook eye shut onto lure lure eye with pliers.  I would make sure they are floating lures, floaters are nice when you need to rest a minute or fight a fish on one line without worrying about second line fouling on the bottom.

Here's a few from Amazon that I've been considering not that I need more lures to add to my collection.  ::)

They are bigger at 5.3" than the ones you like, and shipping is free with Amazon Prime.  Blues and pinks always killer colors for me over the years.

A hui hou, Ahnko

Seriously, Thanks for the tip! I forget that these fish don't play around when it comes to landing one...and as for your Amazon suggestions, it looks like I am getting a few more lures now! ;) If I'm going to go cheap, I may as well get a lot, and figure out what works. I know you were telling me about some name brand hooks, but I went cheap and got a ton by the hundred to test out too, hopefully it wasn't money out the window  ;D

I added open eye siwash hooks to these JVL Hawaii lures which removed the weak link in these lures in my experience.  The JVL deep divers are pretty decent Crystal Minnow clones. http://www.amazon.com/gp/node/index.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&me=A1H8JQEX5G83L7&merchant=A1H8JQEX5G83L7&redirect=true

Those look great! I'm definitely going to duplicate that idea on my new lures. I'll probably use them for a month or so and see if it was worth risking a non-Yo-Zuri :D

I'll post them when I get them in, showing before and after modifications.  Thanks for the help!

Thanks Ahnko Ji I was wondering how guys got the single hooks on.

Feartec- I have had good success with the daiwa minnows also. They are a fair bit cheaper than the yozuris just less variety.

If you REALLY want to be a pake' like me go to eBay and search "5 pcs. lures" and you'll find sellers from China selling clones on auction, free shipping, and I NEVER bid over $5.00 and I usually win.  If I don't I bid again, and again, and again... there are literally thousands of lure auctions happening so you WILL win.  Downside the hooks are junk, and shipping slow but for less than a buck a lure it's worth the wait.  In over 7 years I have never had one of these Chinese lure catastrophically fail on me, just remember to remove the weak links they being the hooks and split rings.  Here's a just a few examples of auctions:

Dude! That is a awesome tip! I was looking on eBay, but didn't really find any good deals. Well, I think you nailed it, this is the way to go. I'll definitely give these a try too! Why not?!? At this price, it's a no brainer! Thanks for the help Ahnko Chee!

First set of cheapo lures in the mail, got some duds, but for the most part they look pretty good!

Of corse these are the pre-modified ones, I'll be posting the post modified lures, then the real test! Which ones catch something! 😃

You can get these singly too but I NEVER bid more than a dollar and I usually win but if I don't I bid on another auction for a buck max.  Did I mention I'm pake'?   ;D

Lol, the cheaper they get, the more you can lose without getting pissed!
