Wind was up since just before sunrise made it difficult to stay on bait piles but still got a few. Lost a mahi with my first piece of bait. Got towed out by a shark, brought it to the side and it decided to cut my line was pissed at first cause I knew it would be a battle going back in against the wind but shark just so happen to pull me over a nice shibi pile. Threw out my last bait and got a strike within seconds. I caught the smaller one in the pile haha but still gonna make a couple nice meals. Shibi was 9 lb even after bleeding it out.

Claiming day 3 tomorrow 4/23/2016. Winds predicted to be a little lighter than was today so should be manageable.

Day 3 starter off with some decent conditions which later turned to crap within hours. Bait was good for the 30 minute see seen the piles then pooof! They were gone. Took 2 big strikes at first light, lost both was not a good start to the day. Caught papio on the bait pole at about 250' trying to catch bait put up a good little fight from that depth. Kahala took my last bait and had to punch out. Jigged the bottom on the way in got lucky with the weke ula

WaimeaKuai on rule 6 says Maximum 5 fish may be reported per day. Can you tell me where in the 2016 rules it states can only be pairs? I swear I seen other claims with mix bag catches with more than 2.

I was just as confused as you, being this is our first Makahiki. It was explained to me (and I finally understood..lol) that you can only score 2 fish under 10lbs. You can score a combo with fish over 10lbs that will allow you to score more than 2 fish. If you can pull off an MM straight, then you can score 5 small fish.

Ok raja thanks bro. They should just state that in the rules. I scratching my head here because I read it like 5 times and all I see is you can claim "up to 5"fish per day. post has been updated. Mahaloz

If Kahala was over 10 then can't I claim the other 2? I'm confused. Is this stayed in the rules?

No, you would still only be able to score your 2 best fish. It's not specifically stated in the rules and that's why I was confused at first, too. I guess that it has always been 2 fish max, unless over 10lb and can qualify for a combo, then 5 fish max.
