Uku sashimi is bomb! Gonna do something different with this one. Gonna cut um in 'fish stick' size pieces, then coconut-panko crust, sauteed in coconut oil, with a lime-ginger aioli dipping sauce. Uh huh, uh huh..  ;)

Awesome weekend with some good friends. Camped for 2 nights and had a lot of fun. No ulua on the slide bait poles, but got lucky off the kayak. Gave all the fish to the braddahs and the community that hosted us. That's what it's all about. No glory.

Justin (Day 10)
Omilu, 5.27 - 9
Uku, 5.4 - 9
Subtotal - 18

Wes (Day 9)
Uku, 9.20 - 9
Uku, 10.26 - 20 (vid sent to Tofu)
Subtotal - 29

Day total - 47
Previous total - 518
New Team Total - 565

Mahalo, Nick! Love dem uku. Some of the best sash.

So, I was pretty tired last night and just wanted to post the score update to make the 48-hour rule. The rest of the story is pretty crazy. Recon mish, launching from a rock beach with waves pounding. Worked on my spare boat for 2 days only to end up with transducer problems, so I was blind all day. I couldn't find bait, but luckily had some dead opelu. Justin got a couple baits and got a couple uku, omilu and hooked a kaku, CnR. I was just peddling around cause no fish finder. Had 6 dead baits and took 6 strikes. Nuts. Got 2 uku and lost a 3rd right at the boat that was around 20#...faaak. Caught a small-ish tiger that I brought right up to the yak and cut the leader. Next bait in the water and a I hook into a nice tuna. Fought um for 45 min and had um up to the boat twice. Big runs, then the typical straight down, corkscrew finish. She made one last surface run and the leader broke. Must have had a nick or rub from all the previous strikes. Buggah was still on the surface after the line broke, could see the sickles splashing, so I motored towards it with my kage in my hand. Sucka had revived just as I was coming close and swam away. Looked like was right around 100 pounds. Oh, well.. Lots of sharks, too. Justin caught 3 hammerheads and an 8-foot tiger followed me for almost a mile on one of my drifts. Coming in was nuts with the big shore break. My a$$ is still puckered. Thank goodness no broken rods... All in all, it was a great camping trip with some good people. So blessed to have these folks in our circle.

Good job wes you guys always get action. Sorry to hear about the one that got away but it happens. My bro lost an ahi at the yak before, he even had the tail in his hand it was dead and tail wrapped so he untangled the tail and bye bye. His leader somehow broke during the fight, we even have pics and a short video

Tnx, Lyle. Hustle til it hurts is the motto..lol
My son keeps me young..or will be the end of me! He charge spots that make me think twice, but his ability gives me confidence. People should know that we are athletes at this level, and not just guys out on a kayak with a fishing pole. Thought and planning go into our trips. Studying Nav charts and bottom contour to put us on the best possible marks. I love this $hit...
