So, check it out. Justin takes a double strike while I'm about 100 yards away. Calls me on the radio, so I head over. By the time I get there, he has one kawakawa on the surface with the other still a ways straight down. I pull up next to him and net the first fish so he can finish off the second. As I pull the fish out of the net, I notice his double hook rig is on the outside of the net tangled around some leader line. Not sure what I'm seeing at this point. I was about to tell him to slack his drag so I could move away from his boat when his hook rig breaks free of the leader line it was tangled to, so I peddle away. After seeing a mystery hook buried in the kawa's head, I realize that it's not one of ours. The hook was snelled with a loop knot on the other end. Leader was around 5' long. It seems as if the fish had been hooked previously and when it tried to take Justin's bait, his hooks got tangled with the mystery leader line just long enough to get it into the boat. His hooks fell off as soon as I got the fish in the net. Crazy thing is the hook wound looked fresh, like it just happened. There were two charter boats that came really close to us right around that time, so I'm wondering if one of them lost this fish and we just got lucky? Nuts..

Here's our small catch from yesterday. Bait wasn't really biting, but we still managed to get a few fish for the dinner table. Highlight of my day was hooking into a big sailfish that took me on a 30 minute ride. Saw the fish break the surface about 50' over my left shoulder, sail and tail fin completely out of the water and swimming straight for my dead opelu. Five seconds later and ZzzzzZzzz! Almost spooled me on the initial run. Half hour later and I felt the bill 'twang' my leader. Cut line and bye bye. Awesome scrap, but it wasn't meant to be this time.

Justin:
Kawakawa, 12.96# - 20
Uku <5#, CnR - 5+2=7
Subtotal - 27

Wes:
Hage, CnR (x2) - 5+2=7 x2=14
Subtotal - 14

Total for Day 2 - 41
Previous total - 54
New total - 95
